This handcrafted Opal ring features an incredible Australian Boulder Opal from the Lightning Ridge mining district in northern NSW. This stunning stone measures approximately 21mm x 14mm, and it is filled with Opalescent streams of colour that run through the boulder stone. The ring itself has been made with a solid sterling silver 4.5mm ring band, a thick sterling silver hand-sawed backing and a fine silver serrated bezel setting. The ring is sanded and polished to a high shine. Like all my work, it is a completely unique piece, made entirely by hand from recycled silver, cruelty-free materials and environmentally-friendly methods!
I have created this ring in a size 8 1/2 (Australian size Q 1/2), but it can also be taken to any local jeweller to be sized up or down!
💎 BOULDER OPAL LORE:
Precious Boulder Opals are only found in one place in the world, which is Queensland, Australia, and forms in cracks or as coatings on the surface of sandstone or ironstone boulders, which is how it earned its name. Occurring as pebble rock, precious opal develops within thin veins, fissures and hollows. As opal miners attempt to remove the embedded opal from the ironstone, some of the host matrix is preserved during the process. For this reason, boulder opal is sometimes referred to as 'opal in matrix'.
Boulder Opal is considered to be a stone that has a pure energy, which helps to clear and strengthen the aura. Boulder Opal is also thought to help provide clarity and purity of thought, un-cluttering a muddled and confused mind. As well as this, it is also thought to help calm and centre, and when used in meditation, can facilitate counsel with guides. It is also considered to be a perfect stone for promoting positivity, healing and increasing beauty.
