This handcrafted Turquoise pendant is inspired by the story of Callisto in Greek Mythology. Legend has it that Callisto, the daughter of the king of Arcadia, joined the followers of the goddess Artemis, swearing an oath of virginity. Later, Zeus was tempted by Callisto, and seduced her by trickery. After her encounter with Zeus, the unfortunate Callisto was turned into a bear by Zeus' wife Hera, as punishment for breaking her vow of chastity. She then roamed the lands of Arcadia, filled with it's snow-topped mountainous peaks, dense forests, rivers and green rolling hills. Eventually, Callisto was shot and killed by Artemis while hunting. Feeling sorry for her, Zeus placed Callisto in the heavens, where she became the constellation known as Ursa Major, the Great Bear.
The pendant features the most beautiful piece of Royston Turquoise that I have ever worked with. It is filled with gorgeous streams of aqua-green, white, brown and blue (symbolising the landscape of Arcadia), and measures approximately 26mm x 19mm. It has been made with a solid sterling silver 16 gauge (1.4mm) bail, a thick sterling silver backing, a fine silver serrated bezel setting and a sterling silver twisted trim. A hand-sawed Callisto is the centrepiece of the pendant, that has then been sanded smooth, oxidised, and polished to a hight shine. It hangs on a 72cm adjustable black organic cotton cord, so it can be worn as a choker, a long layering necklace, and anything in between! Like all my work, it is a completely unique piece made entirely by hand using recycled silver, environmentally-friendly methods and cruelty-free materials!
Total Pendant Length: 55mm approx.

Turquoise is perhaps the oldest stone in man's history, the talisman of kings, shamans, and warriors. Among the Ancient Egyptians, Persians and Chinese, Aztecs and Incas of South America, and Native North Americans, Turquoise was sacred in its adornment and for power, luck, and protection.
Wearing Turquoise is said to bring strength, protection from harm, psychic sensitivity and good fortune. It is a symbol of friendship, aids wearers while traveling and brings peace to the home.
